Indonesia–China Education Collaboration: Graduate School of UNY Welcomes Academic Visit from UNESCO TEC–SHNU

The Graduate School of Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta (GS UNY) welcomed an academic visit from a delegation of Shanghai Normal University (SHNU), China, as part of an international seminar and academic discussion. The delegation consisted of three faculty members and ten students from the UNESCO Teacher Education Center (UNESCO TEC) – SHNU, representing an effort to strengthen collaborative networks in the fields of education, research, and global academic exchange.
The activities commenced on August 1st, 2025 with the opening of the seminar by the Vice Rector of UNY, Prof. Dr. Nur Hidayanto Pancoro Setyo Putro, followed by a warm welcome from the Director of GS UNY, Prof. Dr. Siswantoyo, M.Kes., AIFO. In his remarks, Prof. Siswantoyo stated that the visit was highly timely, considering that UNY is one of the leading universities in Indonesia in the field of education. He also expressed his hope that the program would serve as a bridge for closer educational cooperation between Indonesia and China. The opening session was further enriched by remarks from Dr. Zhu Xiaohu, who conveyed appreciation for UNY’s hospitality and highlighted the potential for deeper academic exchange between the two institutions.
Several engaging presentations were delivered by the SHNU delegation. Dr. Zhang Huafeng, Ph.D. presented a report on STEM teacher education in Shanghai, while Dr. Ding Ruoxi together with graduate student Cheng Jialei discussed the theme “Knowledge Sharing and Youth Development in International Teacher Exchange.” Their presentation highlighted knowledge flows, cross-cultural teacher training strategies, and the importance of developing global competencies among young generations. In addition, student Shen Huayu presented his research on educational cooperation between Indonesia and China, while Fei Jiayi shared moral reflections on the image of Chinese educators.
The visit continued until August 4th, 2025 and included strategic discussion sessions with GS UNY lecturers and students, as well as a visit to the Yogyakarta Regional Teacher Development Center. The meeting marked the beginning of a long-term collaboration in higher education and research between the two institutions. (MR)
