SEAMEO QITEP in Language Conducts Coordination Visit for Collaborative Partnership with GS UNY

The Graduate School of Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta (GS UNY) welcomed a coordination visit from South-east Asian Ministers of Education Organization (SEAMEO) Quality Improvement of Teachers and Education Personnel (QITEP) in Language (SEAQIL) on Thursday, 18 December 2025. The meeting, held at the Leadership Meeting Room, served as a strategic forum to further explore and strengthen plans for collaboration in the enhancement of education quality.

The event opened with remarks from the Director of the GS UNY, Prof. Dr. Siswantoyo, M.Kes., AIFO. In his address, he emphasized that regional cooperation of this nature is an integral part of UNY’s commitment to building an adaptive and competitive academic ecosystem.
“Collaboration is not merely a meeting agenda, but a long-term investment that must generate tangible impact for teachers, researchers, and society,” he stated.

The next remarks were delivered by the Deputy Director for Administration, Dr. Misbah Fikrianto, who highlighted SEAQIL’s readiness to expand institutional collaboration.
“The Graduate School of Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta has a strong academic foundation. We see significant opportunities to design joint programs that are both relevant and forward-looking,” stated the SEAQIL team.

During the presentation session, SEAQIL outlined several ongoing programs, including teacher capacity building, collaborative research initiatives, and language education policy development. SEAQIL also proposed a number of potential areas for further collaboration, such as strengthening SEAQIL–GS UNY collaborative branding, formulating joint policy programs, and developing training initiatives tailored to the needs of both institutions.

This coordination visit also served as a follow-up to previous collaborative meetings between SEAMEO QITEP in Language and the UNESCO Teacher Education Centre (UNESCO TEC), which had resulted in a set of joint recommendations. One key recommendation highlighted was the potential involvement of SEAQIL in the development of the Centre for Teachers of Excellence, an initiative currently under formulation and considered to have strong potential to become a regional center of excellence for teacher competency development.

The meeting not only reinforced inter-institutional communication but also opened new pathways for more progressive and impactful collaboration. Should joint initiatives, including the development of the Centre for Teachers of Excellence, be successfully realized, the partnership between GS UNY and SEAQIL is expected to foster a more innovative, inclusive, and regionally responsive learning ecosystem aligned with the evolving educational landscape of Southeast Asia.
