National Webinar: Fostering Growth Mindset and Digital Deep Learning in Vocational Education

The Graduate School of Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta (GS UNY) successfully organized a National Webinar and Tutorial on Lesson Plan (RPP) and Semester Learning Plan (RPS) for Digital Deep Learning in Vocational High Schools (SMK) and Vocational Higher Education on Tuesday, September 30th, 2025.

The event featured two distinguished national speakers: Prof. Dr. Siswantoyo, M. Kes., AIFO., who presented on “Growth Mindset in Education,” and Prof. Dr. Putu Sudira, M. P., who discussed “Deep Vocational Learning.”

The webinar was officially opened by the leadership of the Graduate School, who expressed appreciation for the initiative as a form of academic contribution to improving the quality of vocational education in the digital era. The event attracted participants from across Indonesia, including lecturers, vocational school teachers, university students, and vocational education practitioners.

In his presentation, Prof. Dr. Siswantoyo, M. Kes. AIFO emphasized the importance of self-reflection before evaluating others, drawing from the Javanese philosophy “Mulat sarira hangrasa wani”—which means “to courageously look within oneself.” He explained that in facing the rapid changes in modern education, educators must cultivate a growth mindset—an attitude open to continuous learning and development. He also introduced mind mapping as an effective strategy to help students better understand and retain learning concepts deeply.

Meanwhile, Prof. Dr. Putu Sudira, M. P. highlighted the need for a paradigm shift in vocational education. He stressed that beyond technical competencies, developing learning skills—the ability to learn independently, analyze information, and apply knowledge in real-world contexts—is crucial for preparing students for the challenges of the workforce. “Vocational education is not only about employability,” Prof. Putu stated, “but also about how students can learn autonomously, think critically, and apply their intelligence across various contexts.”

He further emphasized that the future direction of vocational learning should move toward deep learning—an approach centered on understanding, reflection, and practical application of concepts. In the digital era, this shift also represents a transition from Pedagogy to Cybergogy, where learners become more autonomous and technologically engaged.

Through this webinar, participants gained valuable insights into designing Lesson Plans (RPP) and Semester Learning Plans (RPS) based on digital deep learning principles. The event is expected to serve as a concrete step toward strengthening an adaptive, reflective, and future-oriented vocational education ecosystem in Indonesia. (LS/ST)
