ISLAMIC RELIGIOUS EDUCATION STRATEGY IN OVERCOMING VIOLENCE IN SCHOOLS

Violence has become a phenomenon which has increasingly penetrated into the world of education, including in school. On this occasion, Muhammad Ridho Muttaqin, a doctoral student at Educational Science Study Program SPS UNY, tried to reveal the practice of student violence in schools; school strategies for addressing violence in schools. Apart from that, Ridho also explained the strategy pattern of Islamic Religious Education in dealing with violence in schools. This is a qualitative research with a phenomenological approach. The research was conducted at the SMK VIP Ma’arif NU 1 Kemiri, SMK Sawunggalih Kutoarjo, and SMK HKTI Kutoarjo. In this study, Ridho involved the school principals; vice principal for curriculum, vice principal for student affairs to help the principal; Islamic Religious Education teacher; and students of grades X, XI, XII including administrators of student organizations at schools.

With the focused group discussion (FGD) method, observation, in-depth interviews, and document tracing, Ridho analyzed the data in five stages; writing the transcripts of the interview results, find out the statement about the research focus; grouping those statement-codes into meaningful units; construct all explanations about the meaning and essence of the informant experiences; and compile a report on research results.

This study found that violent practices in schools like bullying is still occur in the school environment. These bullying include physically mocking, throwing and stabbing using the stationery, hiding things and mocking with satirical sentences. The impact of these bullying such as physical and psychological impact.

The motive behind the perpetrators is because of their revenge and mostly because they are joking and do not think their actions are serious. Then the school efforts to anticipate and overcome these cases of violence include three things; making a principal's policy; compile school curricula and programs; and optimizing student activities. Ridho also applies a pattern of Islamic Religious Education strategy to address violence in schools, that is programmed coaching, habituation in daily life at school, provides assistance to students. "Implementation of that three patterns strategy can overcome cases of violence in schools," concluded Ridho in the Open Examination which was conducted offline.
