Visiting Professor: Prof. Sattar Rasul Shares Best Practices for Publishing in Indexed Journal
The Graduate School of Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta (GS UNY) hosts a visiting professor program with Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM). From Monday to Friday, September 22-26, 2025, the Graduate School of Yogyakarta State University (SPs UNY) welcomed Prof. Ts. Dr. Mohamad Sattar Rasul as a Visiting Professor in the Doctoral Program of Technology and Vocational Education (PTK). The main agenda included lectures and academic mentoring, notably the teaching of the course “Human Resources in a Global Perspective” in accordance with the Implementation Arrangement (IA) agreed upon by both institutions.
In the academic sessions, Prof. Sattar explored strategies for publishing in reputable journals by introducing the ecosystem of indexed journals (WoS/Scopus) along with their metrics (impact factor, quartiles), and guiding participants on how to evaluate the alignment of manuscripts with a journal’s scope. He emphasized the importance of selecting credible bibliographic databases and understanding quality standards before submitting manuscripts.
To strengthen writing skills, Prof. Sattar dissected the structure of high-quality articles—covering structured abstracts, formulation of research gaps and objectives, methodological design, as well as discussion, conclusion, and implications. He encouraged the use of up-to-date data and references to ensure scientific relevance. The practical guidance was enriched with examples on variable construction, analytical techniques, and tips for maintaining coherence in arguments to meet the standards of reputable journals.
Through a series of lectures, writing workshops, and mentoring sessions, this Visiting Professor program is expected to reinforce the culture of research and international publication at GS UNY, broaden collaborative networks, and enhance the global competitiveness of its graduates.
