Strengthening Scholarly Publishing: SPs UNY Coordinates REID Editorial Board with International Expert

Yogyakarta, 21 April 2026 — The Graduate School of Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta (SPs UNY) continues to demonstrate its commitment to enhancing the quality of scholarly publications through a coordination meeting of the editorial board of the Research and Evaluation in Education (REID) journal. Held on Tuesday, 21 April 2026, at the Meeting Room, 1st Floor, Sugeng Mardiyono Building, the activity formed part of the Visiting Top Professor program series.
The session featured Jimmy de la Torre, Ph.D., who serves as Advisory Editor, contributing strategic insights to further strengthen journal governance. The meeting was also attended by the Editor-in-Chief of REID, Heri Retnawati, along with the editorial board and journal management team of SPs UNY.
In her opening remarks, the Editor-in-Chief expressed appreciation for Prof. de la Torre’s contributions since joining the Advisory Editorial Board in October 2024. His involvement has been instrumental in maintaining the journal’s management quality, enabling REID to retain its national accreditation at Rank 2 (Sinta 2) for the 2024–2028 period. Looking ahead, REID remains committed to further enhancing its publication standards by incorporating recommendations from international indexing and evaluation bodies, including the Content Selection and Advisory Board (CSAB) of Scopus and Web of Science assessors.
During the discussion session, the journal team presented a series of strategic initiatives undertaken to strengthen editorial practices. These included the adoption of the Contributor Roles Taxonomy (CRediT) to improve transparency in authorship contributions, as well as updates to the manuscript template with the inclusion of an authorship contribution section to align with international publishing standards.
As Advisory Editor, Prof. de la Torre provided key recommendations, emphasizing the importance of maintaining publication consistency, ensuring comprehensive metadata to support citation visibility, and managing acceptance rates to foster a healthy publication ecosystem. He also actively participated in reviewing several manuscripts through the Open Journal System (OJS), offering constructive feedback to support authors in improving the quality of their work.
The coordination meeting further included the distribution of manuscripts to editors and reviewers based on their respective areas of expertise. Several reviewed articles were returned to authors for revision, while others will proceed through subsequent stages of the review process.
Through this initiative, SPs UNY continues to reinforce its commitment to professional and internationally aligned journal governance. The synergy between the editorial team and global experts is expected to elevate the quality of publications and enhance the international visibility of the REID journal.
