Strengthening Academic Excellence: BAN-PT Assesses SPs UNY’s Environmental Science Master’s Program

The National Accreditation Agency for Higher Education (BAN-PT) conducted a site assessment as part of the accreditation process for the Master’s Program in Environmental Science at the Graduate School of Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta (UNY) from Monday to Wednesday, 6–8 April 2026. This process represents a pivotal mechanism in higher education quality assurance, aimed at rigorously evaluating the program’s academic integrity, institutional performance, and overall implementation in a comprehensive manner.

The assessment was undertaken by a team of BAN-PT assessors and representatives, comprising Dr. Benno Rahardyan from Institut Teknologi Bandung, Dr. Ir. Dwi Setyawan from Universitas Sriwijaya, and Qadar Burhanudin, S.Pt. The evaluators carried out a systematic review across key dimensions, including governance and institutional management, human resource capacity, curriculum alignment, learning effectiveness, research productivity, community engagement, as well as outputs and achievements within the framework of the tridharma of higher education.

The site visit commenced with an opening session attended by the Vice Rector for Academic Affairs, the Directorate of Quality Assurance team, the leadership of the UNY Graduate School, and the program management. In his remarks, the Vice Rector for Academic Affairs, Prof. Nur Hidayanto Pancoro Setyo Putro, M.Pd., Ph.D., reaffirmed the institution’s strong commitment to advancing educational quality and fostering the development of environmental scholarship that is both relevant and responsive to contemporary global challenges.

Throughout the assessment process, the assessors conducted thorough document verification, in-depth interviews with key stakeholders, and direct observation of supporting academic facilities and infrastructure. The constructive and evidence-based discussions that emerged during the assessment provided a critical reflective platform for the study program to continuously enhance its quality assurance practices and sustain a culture of continuous improvement.

Through this assessment, the Master’s Program in Environmental Science at SPs UNY is expected to achieve the highest accreditation outcome, while further consolidating its role in producing graduates who are highly competent, globally competitive, and capable of contributing meaningfully to addressing environmental challenges at both national and international levels.
