Enhancing Institutional Quality: SPs UNY Conducts Strategic Benchmarking Visit to SPs UPI

The Graduate School of Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta (SPs UNY) conducted a benchmarking visit on human resource governance and graduate school management to the Graduate School of Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia (SPs UPI) Bandung on Thursday, 12 February 2026. The session took place from 13.00 to 15.00 WIB in Meeting Room 01.108 on the first floor of SPs UPI Bandung.
The visit was a reciprocal engagement following a similar visit previously made by SPs UPI to SPs UNY. The SPs UNY delegation consisted of three representatives: Prof. Dr. Dyah Kumalasari, M.Pd. (Deputy Director for Academic Affairs, Student Affairs, Research, and Cooperation), Prof. Dr. Moch. Bruri Triyono, M.Pd. (Coordinator of the Doctoral Program in Vocational and Technical Education), and Dr. Umi Farisiyah, M.Pd. (Staff of the International Affairs and Partnership Unit).
The delegation was welcomed by the SPs UPI leadership, including Dean Prof. Dr. Juntika Nurihsan, M.D., the Deputy Deans, the Head of the International Partnership Unit, and Study Program Chairs. In his remarks, the Dean of SPs UPI highlighted that UPI currently offers 10 study programs with more than 1,000 active students. Several flagship programs were presented, including Vocational and Technical Education (PTK), which has achieved Excellent accreditation at both Master's and Doctoral levels; Arts Education, which attracts a significant number of international students; and Linguistics, which has been recognized under the World Class University by Subject category and is preparing to welcome 60 students from Uzbekistan. UPI also maintains active international partnerships, including with universities in Libya.
During the discussion session, Prof. Bruri expressed SPs UNY's keen interest in learning about SPs UPI's human resource governance strategies, the integration of AI in learning, and policies on the examination of international students. Prof. Dyah, meanwhile, highlighted the importance of understanding SPs UPI's collaboration model that has successfully attracted a large number of international students, as well as its academic management and quality assurance practices.
SPs UPI then shared a number of best practices, including autonomous faculty recruitment from top graduates through the PMDSU program, adaptive AI usage policies aligned with national higher education developments, and a proactive student outreach and marketing strategy. Academic innovations such as blended learning, a Degree by Research program, a block learning system, multidisciplinary research groups, and dedicated research laboratories for each professor were also highlighted. On alumni management, SPs UPI explained that tracer studies are conducted on an integrated, university-wide basis, while individual study programs are responsible for ensuring full alumni participation in data collection. Accelerated study pathways — including Fast Track (Bachelor's to Master's), Direct Track (Bachelor's to Doctoral), and special routes for student exchange participants — were also presented as key strengths of SPs UPI's graduate development ecosystem.
Through this benchmarking visit, SPs UNY gained valuable strategic insights across several areas, including internationalization, academic quality enhancement, research collaboration, and human resource management. The best practices and findings gathered are expected to serve as meaningful references in advancing the governance and academic services of the UNY Graduate School.
