Joint Supervision Program: SPs UNY Collaborates with Prof. Wu-Yuin Hwang to Strengthen Doctoral Research

The Graduate School of Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta (SPs UNY) organized a joint supervision program as part of its ongoing efforts to strengthen international academic collaboration with National Dong Hwa University, Taiwan, supported by the EQUITY funding program. The initiative has been conducted online from February to June 2026, with an on-site session held on 13–17 April 2026.

The joint supervision involved Prof. Wu-Yuin Hwang as the international supervisor, working in collaboration with Prof. Herman Dwi Surjono, Ph.D., from the UNY Graduate School. The supervision was provided to doctoral student Ariyawan Agung Nugroho, focusing on the development of his dissertation centered on technology-enhanced learning innovations, particularly the design of interactive learning media aimed at improving student engagement amid the challenges of digital distraction.

Throughout its implementation, the program emphasized deepening the research substance, strengthening the conceptual framework, and refining the overall direction of the dissertation to ensure alignment with current academic developments and global demands. The supervision process was carried out intensively through a combination of online and face-to-face sessions, enabling comprehensive and sustained academic dialogue.

This joint supervision approach extends beyond supporting the completion of doctoral studies, fostering the integration of international perspectives into the research process. Through the involvement of an international supervisor, the student gains broader insights into research methodology, the strengthening of scholarly contributions, and opportunities for publication in internationally reputable journals.

Through this initiative, SPs UNY continues to demonstrate its commitment to enhancing the quality of doctoral graduates while expanding its global academic network. The synergy between local and international supervisors is expected to produce research that is not only academically robust but also capable of contributing meaningfully to the advancement of education and workforce development in a global context.
