Exploring AI and Global Research: SPs UNY Hosts Guest Lecture and Sharing Session with Prof. Wu-Yuin Hwang

The Graduate School of Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta (SPs UNY) welcomed Prof. Wu-Yuin Hwang from National Dong Hwa University, Taiwan, as part of a Guest Lecture and Sharing Session held on 15–16 April 2026. The event brought together master’s and doctoral students from various study programs within the UNY Graduate School.

During the Guest Lecture session, Prof. Hwang delivered a presentation entitled “Investigating the Use of Generative AI to Automatically Generate Mathematics Problems in Authentic Contexts and Its Impact on Learning.” In his presentation, he explored the use of generative artificial intelligence in developing context-based mathematics problems, highlighting its potential to enhance learning quality while fostering deeper conceptual understanding among students.

He further elaborated on the role of artificial intelligence in supporting cross-cultural learning. Through technology-driven approaches—such as AI-assisted applications and web-based systems—learning experiences can be designed to be more contextual, personalized, and interactive. This approach enables students to develop the ability to understand, compare, and reflect on cultural differences in more meaningful and authentic contexts.

In the Sharing Session, Prof. Hwang offered valuable insights into research development strategies and publication in internationally reputable journals. He emphasized the importance of long-term research planning, the cultivation of innovative ideas, and the integration of pedagogical and technological perspectives in producing high-quality research. He also highlighted the significance of a systematic research process—from design and implementation to data analysis—in generating meaningful scholarly contributions.

The discussions throughout the sessions enriched participants’ perspectives, particularly in connecting advancements in artificial intelligence with contemporary practices in teaching and research within the field of education. The innovative approaches presented provided fresh insights for students in developing research that is both relevant and responsive to global challenges.

Through this initiative, SPs UNY continues to foster an academic environment that is adaptive to technological advancements and globally oriented. The presence of Prof. Hwang is expected to inspire students to further enhance the quality of their research and expand their academic contributions at the international level.
