Basic Linux Training by UNY Graduate School in Collaboration with PT Bank Pembangunan Daerah DIY

Yogyakarta, October 20–23, 2025 — The Graduate School of Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta (GS UNY) organized a Basic Linux Training program as part of its initiative to strengthen open-source literacy and support digital transformation. The event was held in collaboration with PT. Bank Pembangunan Daerah, Daerah Istimewa Yogyakarta (PT. BPD DIY) and was attended by nine participants from PT. BPD DIY. The training was designed in progressive stages to help participants advance from basic understanding to practical operational skills applicable in their workplace.

The first day focused on the foundations of GNU/Linux, the philosophy of open-source systems, file system structure, and terminal navigation skills. Participants practiced essential commands for organizing folders and files, including permission management as the foundation of system security.

The second day deepened participants’ mastery of the command line, user and group management, and application package handling through the package manager. The session continued with an introduction to process and service management, as well as the basics of storage, file systems, and virtual memory to enhance understanding of system performance and stability.

The third day addressed topics on networking and security. Participants learned about IP, DNS, and gateway configuration, followed by an introduction to basic firewall setup. The session concluded with practical exercises in shell scripting for task automation, such as scheduling updates and performing simple backups.

The fourth day emphasized service reliability through system logging and resource monitoring, task scheduling using various utilities, and an introduction to advanced administration covering web and database services. Participants practiced key steps in backup and recovery to ensure digital service continuity.

Through this four-day program, GS UNY and PT. BPD DIY reaffirmed their shared commitment to preparing technologically literate human resources who are secure in system management and efficient in supporting open-source–based digital services. The training concluded with an action plan summary and strengthened networking for continued technical mentoring.
