Enhancing Doctoral Research Publication Through Joint Supervision with Northern Illinois University

The Graduate School (SPs) of Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta conducted a joint supervision program from 18–22 May 2026 as part of its ongoing commitment to strengthening international academic collaboration and enhancing the quality of doctoral research and scientific publications. Supported by the EQUITY THE Impact Ranking program, the initiative reflects the Graduate School’s broader efforts to expand global academic networks and promote excellence in higher education.

The program featured Assoc. Prof. Shei-Chau Wang, Ed.D., from Northern Illinois University as the international supervisor, working in collaboration with Prof. Nur Hidayanto Pancoro Setyo Putro, M.Pd., Ph.D., from Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta. The joint supervision was conducted for Dwi Wulandari, a doctoral student in the Educational Research and Evaluation (PEP) Study Program, whose research focuses on the development of transdisciplinary creative pedagogy and the strengthening of professional support systems for secondary school teachers.

Throughout the program, academic discussions centered on the preparation and refinement of scientific manuscripts derived from the student’s dissertation research. The supervision process provided a valuable platform for in-depth scholarly dialogue, focusing on strengthening the conceptual foundation of the articles, enhancing the quality of academic writing, and identifying effective publication strategies for internationally reputable journals.

The collaboration enabled the student to gain broader international perspectives while receiving constructive feedback from supervisors representing different academic contexts. Such interdisciplinary and cross-cultural academic engagement is expected to strengthen the scholarly contribution of the research and increase its readiness for publication in high-impact international journals.

Beyond supporting individual research development, the program also reflects the Graduate School’s continued commitment to fostering a strong culture of academic publication and research internationalization. Through sustained collaboration with global academic partners, the Graduate School seeks to create meaningful opportunities for knowledge exchange, research innovation, and international scholarly engagement.

This joint supervision initiative further demonstrates the value of international academic partnerships in advancing doctoral education and strengthening the global visibility of educational research produced by Indonesian scholars.
