WRITING CAMP: DIVING INTO THE WORLD OF ACADEMIC WRITING FOR GRADUATE STUDENTS OF UNY

Graduate students of various study programs in the Graduate School of UNY gathered in the Theater Room of Graduate School UNY this early year to attend the Dissertation Writing Camp. It is an intensive event held to help them in completing their researches and dissertations. The event is held as response to the challenge often faced by graduate students in finishing their theses or dissertations. It is designed to provide intensive support, guidance, and atmosphere that motivate them to increase their writing productivity.

The event involved a number of activities, including workshop session, consultation with supervising lecturers, and also group discussion session to share experiences and strategies in writing. Students were also given access to research resources and library specially prepared for this event.

“One of the main objectives of this Dissertation Writing Camp is to help students build solid structure for their dissertation, improve their analytical ability, and overcome hindrance that may emerge during the writing process,” said Prof. Dr. Slamet Suyanto, M.Ed., the Vice Director I of Graduate School of UNY. Inviting supervising lecturers and experts, the event provided platform for students to get direct feedbacks and guidance.

This event is not all about writing, but also about establishing solid academic community between graduate students. After attending the event, students are expected to have stronger foundation in completing their researches and succeed in producing high quality dissertations.

“This Dissertation Writing Camp gives opportunity for graduate students to fully focus on their writing without minding their other tasks. It is also an opportunity to build research community and share idea among students,” added Slamet Suyanto as the head committee of the event.
