Master of Environmental Science of Graduate School UNY Joins the Inaugural Rakernas After Officially Becoming a PEPSILI Member

The Association of Environmental Science Study Programs (PEPSILI) is a cooperative network organization between all environmental science study programs in Indonesia. PEPSILI is a non-profit organization as a legal entity and a vehicle for improving and developing Environmental Science based on the Tridharma of Higher Education, especially in education, research, and community service. PEPSILI aims to (1) increase cooperation between Environmental Science Study Programs, especially in carrying out the Tridharma of Higher Education, in the fields of education, research, and community service related to environmental science; and (2) increase cooperation between other institutions and agencies both domestically and abroad, with the Environmental Science Study Program, either individually or in groups/partners.

The Environmental Science study program of the Yogyakarta State University Postgraduate School Master Program, which was only officially established in mid-2023, has formally become a member of PEPSILI. At the PEPSILI X Rakernas on November 2-4, 2023, in Banjarmasin, it was present and actively participated, represented by one of the lecturers of this study program, namely Dr. Tien Aminatun, S.Sc., M.Si. The host of the 2023 National Meeting was Lambung Mangkurat University, Banjarmasin, South Kalimantan. The 2023 Rakernas consisted of several activities. On the first day, an International Conference was held at Galaxy Hotel Banjarmasin, Jalan A. Yani KM 2.5 No.138, Sungai Baru, Central Banjarmasin District, Banjarmasin City, South Kalimantan, while on the second day, competency training for Strategic Environmental Assessment (KLHS) validators and a working meeting were held at the Postgraduate Building Hall of Lambung Mangkurat University, Benjamin. On the third day, rambai mangrove seedlings were planted on Curiak Island, which is a research and conservation station for proboscis monkeys, as a form of community service by PEPSILI in conserving the environment.

The first day was The 1st International Conference of Environmental Science, Development and Management (ICESDM) with the theme "The Role of Education and Research for Supporting the Development of A Sustainable Environment towards Green City," which presented several invited speakers from several countries; namely Prof. Yong Chan Seo (Sangji University, South Korea); Assoc. Prof. Muhammad Roil Bilad (Universiti Brunei Darussalam), Prof. Azlan Kamari (Sultan Idris University of Education, Malaysia), Prof. Kosuke Mizuno (University of Kyoto, Japan), Prof. Dr. ner. nat. Dedi Rosadi, M.Sc (Gadjah Mada University), and Prof. Muthia Elma, M.Sc (Lambung Mangkurat University).

On the second day, the schedule of the event was as follows; (1) remarks from the Chairman of PEPSILI, Dr. Suyud Warno Utomo, M.Si; (2) remarks from the Rector of Lambung Mangkurat University, Prof. Dr. Ahmad Alim Bachri, S.E., M.Si, who also opened the Rakernas and KLHS Validator Competency Training; (3) keynote speeches by the Director General of Forestry Planning and Environmental Management of the Ministry of Environment and Forestry, Dr. Hanif Faisol Nurofiq, S. Hut, M.Si with the theme "Human Capital Development in the Field of PPLH / Environmental Management"; Indriyani Rachman, Ph. D. from the Faculty of Environmental Engineering Department of Environmental Management System, The University of Kitakyushu; Prof. Dr. Ir. H. Gusti Muhammad Hatta, M.S (Minister of Environment 2009-2011); and continued with (4) SEA Validator Competency Training with resource person Erik Teguh Primantoro, S.Hut. MES (Director of Prevention of Environmental Impacts of Regional and Sector Policy (PDLKWS). The 2nd day of the event ended with the socialization and discussion of the national curriculum of the Environmental Science Cluster guided by Prof. Dr. Eko Haryono, M.Si, and the Formulation Team. The 2nd day of the event was held from morning to evening.

Day 3 was a field trip by motorized boat across the Barito River to Curiak Island. Curiak Island is a research station for proboscis monkey conservation in its natural habitat in the form of mangrove forests managed by Lambung Mangkurat University.

The PEPSILI X Rakernas produced important points related to curriculum revision, especially alternatives to the thesis for S1, changes in the national curriculum according to Permendikbudristekdikti No. 53 of 2023, namely the number of credits for the S2 program, which was originally 36-42 credits to 54-72 credits, and the S3 curriculum by research. In addition, it also solidified the formation of the Environmental Science Cluster Independent Accreditation Institute (LAM SERULING).
