FIELD PRACTICUM OF ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENCE MASTER PROGRAM, UNY GRADUATE SCHOOL VISITS SEVERAL LOCATIONS TANGING FROM FISHING VILLAGES, ENVIRONMENTAL AND EDUCATION-BASED TPA, COMMUNITY FORESTS TO COMMUNITY GOLD MINES

Concerning the existence of practicum courses in the Master of Environmental Science Program, Post Graduate School of the State University of Yogyakarta in the 2022/2023 academic year as required courses for first-semester students, field practicum activities were held for several courses that were mandatory for practicum, namely Environmental Research Methodology, Population and Sustainable Environmental Studies, Environmental Ethics, and Environmental Statistics. In its implementation, it is also associated with two other courses, namely Ecology and Environmental Pollution and Environmental Economics. This activity was held on October 20-21, 2023, located in four different places, covering the regencies of Banyumas, Cilacap, and Kulon Progo. This field practicum was accompanied by two supervisors from the Master of Environmental Science Study Program at the Postgraduate School of the State University of Yogyakarta, namely Dr. Tien Aminatun, M.Si., and Kismiantini, PhD.

The practicum locations are adjusted to the course material. The locations include; (1) BLE landfill in Kemrajen District, Banyumas Regency for the Environmental Ethics course; (2) Segara Anakan Fishermen Village, Cilacap Regency for the population and Sustainable Environmental Studies and Environmental Ethics courses; (3) Rakyat Gold Mining in Paningkaban Village, Gumelar District, Banyumas Regency for Environmental Research Methodology, Ecology and Environmental Pollution, and Environmental Ethics courses, and (4) Kalibiru Community Forest, Kulon Progo Regency for Environmental Statistics and Environmental Economics courses.

Some of the competencies achieved by students from each location include (1) knowing the flow of zero waste processing using non-incinerator pyrolysis at the BLE landfill, Banyumas Regency; (2) understanding the attitudes and behavior of the Segara Anakan fishing village community, Cilacap Regency towards their fishery and household waste; (3) knowing the process of artisanal gold mining starting from digging mining pits to processing until pure gold ore is obtained in Paningkaban Village, Gumelar District, Banyumas Regency, as well as the environmental and socio-economic impacts of the gold mining activities; and (4) obtaining raw data that will be used in the practice of analyzing the bipartite in R statistics program at the Kalibiru Community Forest location, Kulon Progo Regency.

Through this field practicum activity, it is hoped that students of the Master of Environmental Science Program at the Postgraduate School of the State University of Yogyakarta can understand the environmental problems that occur in the field. If understanding has been formed, students will find it easier to integrate theory with facts in studying the environment. (NRP)
