The Graduate School Language Education Science Study Program at UNY was opened in 2006, based on the Decree of the Director General Higher Education Number: 3039/D/T/2006 dated 16 August 2006 concerning the establishment of study programs. The opening of the Doctoral Program Language Education Science was based on considerations of educational thought and practice so far more "borrowing" from other countries, so it does not make encourage educators (teachers) and education practitioners to think about and understand the basic philosophy, cultural values, social history that must be built as a basis for the development of Indonesian educational theory and practice. Many educational policies and educational practices do not bring the expected results. What appears to be important is exploring and understanding indigenous wealth, philosophical roots, historical, and socio-cultural views of educational theory that have been pioneered and carried out by local and national education actors, apart from exploring educational theory with an outward perspective that builds global understanding to be able to participate actively in global life that changes quickly and complex.
